Anniversary time, over 14 years of firsts!

“It’s not bragging if you can back it up!”

In 2004, founder Richard Tew hung up his competitive shoes after a very successful time in national competition.  Having traveled the nation competing at local, state, regional and national championships, it was time to embark on a new chapter: his own school.

September 2004, he started teaching classes in both San Antonio and Austin, TX, also in his adopted hometown of Pasadena (TX), a suburb of Houston.  Since then, he was the first teacher to open classes in Pearland, The Houston Heights, Galveston, Pasadena, the East End, Midtown, Clear Lake, Friendswood, Dickinson, Hyde Park and Deer Park, just to name a few.

Our school is also the first independent Irish dance school to host competitions all Irish dancers (open platform) have the chance to compete in (with their teachers’ permission of course).  That has never been done in Texas.

Speaking of firsts, we are the first Houston area Irish dance school to start independent theater productions, featuring local Irish dancers and local Irish musicians.  Together, we enjoyed a handful of successful shows at the Barnevelder theater downtown, Clear Lake Community Theater and the University of Houston, Clear Lake’s Bayou Theater. We are also the only school in Texas currently  offering theater training classes (developing now) that not only teach Irish dancers the stage, it can be used to prepared other theatrical aspects for aspiring actors, actresses, theater technical directors and helpers, etc.

Our school is also proud to be the first to send our dancer and teaching assistant Becca Bryan to a world qualifier for the WIDA world championships, proof open platform has taken hold in Texas.

We also offer the only teacher-in-training program in Texas.  We have offered teacher workshops for teachers around the world to attend since 2011.  We have had teachers as far as Philidelphia, Rhode Island and Newfoundland attend and learn.  We are also busy teaching the next generation of Tew Academy teachers as well.

We are also the largest and now oldest independently ran  Irish dance school in the greater Houston area.

We have done all this by not compromising on our integrity, by standing true to our morals and encouraging the best from our dancers.  We don’t just want to produce great dancers, we want to help mold the leaders of tomorrow.

Come join us and see what family-friendly, community-minded Irish dance is all about.  Email
